Björling and Sayão are Roméo et Juliette

This week's new release features the legendary 1947 live performance of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette from the Metropolitan Opera, starring Jussi Björling and Bidú Sayão.  Conducted by Emil Cooper, this performance has long been highly admired despite its less than ideal sound quality.

Our release incorporates newly discovered, significantly improved audio from the original broadcast, covering over forty minutes of the second and third acts. While not the complete opera, this enhanced audio, combined with Pristine's Ambient Stereo XR remastering, surely offers the best sound quality currently possible for this truly historic recording.

We also mark the 63rd anniversary this week of the death of Bruno Walter, with a 10% discount on all his recordings at Pristine.
